A day of registering...

We started our registries yesterday for a very full day out and about. I think Josh had just managed to forget about our 8 hours wedding registry day and then here comes this one. However this was a lot different, sure we went to a lot of stores and have certain things we like but we are not actually registering for many items.

I am no stranger to this baby rodeo. I'm one of the last of my friends to have a baby and I've been very hands on with almost all of them. Consistently. Sure it's nothing like having your own child, but you really do get the drift and learn a lot. With that being said I've seen lots of baby shower gifts and welcome home baby gifts that don't get used and end up being a huge waste of money for the sender which I think is unfortunate. Mostly I've learned you can spend a million bucks on the best clothes and find out it's preemie and nothing fits them for another 6 months. Not the end of the world but now you have to go out and spend even more money. You can find out that your child is 20 pounds and NOTHING you bought will fit, or squeeze onto one leg. Now your back to square one with a newborn at home and having to buy essentials. Not worth it. Time and time again, friend and friend again the biggest two things that I'm told over and over are if you can possibly ask for two things only make it the following: monetary gifts or gift cards.

Especially with newborns, the fancy clothes don't get used. They grow so fast and so different a lot of the clothes last for possibly a week or two if at all. Also unless you know for a fact what the parents likes or dislikes are it's a tough road to go down. For instance we love organic materials for clothing and bedding and have a color theme already picked out but a lot of people would not know that about us without asking.

Diapers are hard cause again, you just don't know sizes or fits till you start using them. Just the thought itself of someone buying something for us with their hard earned money that we won't ever be able to use and it will just sit in the house or have to get moved from room to room to make room makes me feel horrible.
So while we did register for essentials like bathing supplies, pacifiers, toys and daily used items we would much prefer that if anyone IS going to actually spend money on something it be the best investment possible for their money. Gifts cards and such!

Even my Mom is not buying anything baby related just because we just don't and won't know what the baby will need or can use till the time comes.

Monday baby registry brain dump :)
